Dreikurs Model is a psychological approach to understanding behavior developed by Rudolf Dreikurs in the early 20th century. It is based on the belief that all human behavior is purposeful and attempts to achieve some goal or meet some need. According to this model, individuals are unique and can be placed in four different types of behavior modes: dominant, compliant, withdrawal and Attention Getting. These modes are based on individual goals, which are either logical (meeting basic needs) or illogical (misperception of reality).
Dreikurs suggests that behavior patterns are learned, and that behavior changes can be achieved through reinforcement of adaptive behaviors. The three key components of the Dreikurs model are:
Attention: Human beings seek attention, and individuals may behave in particular ways to gain it.
Power: Human beings also seek power, and individuals may behave in particular ways to establish or assert their power.
Social Belonging: Humans seek belongingness, and individuals may behave to gain acceptance or inclusion from others.
The Dreikurs Model is widely used in educational settings to understand and modify negative behaviors in students. It is also used in family and group therapy to help individuals improve their communication skills and develop positive behavior patterns.
